My Belt Holder
My Belt Holder
I wanted to make a belt holder that represented my unique martial arts journey.
The Om symbol represents my yoga journey. Om or (Aum) is considered the primordial sound of the universe from which all creation emerges. There is a vibration that occurs when chanting Om. This vibration can activate various energy centers in the body. Yoga has been the path I have used to heal my body from various injuries throughout my life without using pain pills or surgery. I love yoga.
The yin/yang symbol represents traditional Chinese martial arts. Yin/yang represents two polarities in life. Nature has a balance. There is hot and cold, light and dark, good and evil. These things are subjective and require the opposite in order to exist. For instance. How could tell if something is cold unless we could compare it to something that is hot? The center of the yin/yang symbol is called wuxi. It is the place between two polarities. This center is where I like to exist.
The triangle represents Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. It represents mind, body, and spirit. Geometrically, a triangle provides a constant, solid foundation. Regardless of which side it rest on, it remains stable.
The ten Chinese characters represent the ten martial moralities of Chinese martial arts. They were passed down to me by my tai chi master, Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming. The moralities are:
Moralities Of Deed:
Humility, Respect, Righteousness, Trust, and Loyalty
Moralities of Mind:
Will, Endurance, Perseverance, Patience, and Courage.
This belt holder contains the foundation for my martial arts journey. The belt holder will hold my five belts from BJJ, white, blue, purple, brown and black. I hang it on my wall to remind myself everyday, of what I am striving to be. Ultimately, at its core, the goal of my path is to understand deeply, what my human potential is.
